- As you can see, the editing is nearly done for the music video. All we need to add in to the timeline is the performance part which will be done by the of today.
- A grey scale filter has been placed over the top.
- The gaps are where the performance parts will be put in.

AP - Reflection on Shoot -17/11/15
- On this shoot we shot the beginning of our music video in Grosvenor Park. We had been given the idea for a missing person poster to show that my family are wondering where I am and want me to come home, but at first I do not see them.
- We had all of the equipment for this shoot. We used the rig and jib for the shot where I am asleep on the bench with my sleeping bag.
- The tracking dolly was used for the shot where I walk past the missing person poster with me on it. The camera tracks away from the poster and I walk past it.
- What didn't go so well was the filming in town as lots of people got in the way of the shot.
- The costume I was wearing was good as a member of public actually thought I was homeless so she tried to give me money when we were filming the time lapse shot of me sitting down outside a shop.
AP - Reflection on Hastings Shoot - 8/11/15
- On Sunday 8th November, we did our second shoot in Hastings for the first half of our music video.
- For this shoot we had the track and dolly as well as the rig and the jib. This was good as we were able to try lots of different shots from different angles which all looked very effective.
- We originally had planned to use real homeless people in our music video, but when we got there, the homeless people we came across were not willing to take part and were getting annoyed with us when we were asking them so we thought it would be best to leave them alone.
- The shots that went well were the ones which involved using the jib as we had not used this before and the angles were effective. We could also use this as an example of progression from AS to A2 as we did not have it for AS.

AP - Filming Schedule
- We are planning to do a reshoot on Sunday 15th November as when we did our last shoot, we did not film enough close shots and too many of the shots were of me walking away from the camera.
- As you can see, lots of our shots were similar to this which means you are unable to have an emotive response to my character as you cannot see my face.
- We are planning to do this shoot in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells as getting the train to Hastings was very expensive and the shots we filmed there, could easily be filmed in these two locations.
- We plan to use the same equipment as previous so the track and dolly and the rig and jib.

COS - Lesson 11/9/15
- After reviewing our footage we have come to the realisation that we are going to have to re-do the shoot and slightly edit our concept
- The change has come from the fact that we did not do enough close ups and we spent too much time filming the actors from the back and we did not see enough of their faces/facial expressions.
- Some of the footage may still be usable, however integrating it into our footage of the upcoming shoot may prove too problematic as it is not viable for us to travel up too Hastings again
- Our new shoot will be conducted in and around Tunbridge Wells, as there is a diverse range of locations that we can use to good effect
AP - Todays lesson - 9/11/15 - Editing
- In this lesson I had to get the footage from the camera and put it onto the D drive of our computer.
- After this I had to put the footage into our premiere project.
- I went through all of the footage and was looking at what bits I could use and what bits we couldn't use.
- Then I put it onto the timeline and cut it down to the bits that we wanted from each shot.
- This footage was for the first half of our track.

COS - Reflection on shoot 2
- We conducted the second shoot for our production in Hastings on the 8th of November. We filmed all our footage at various locations along the beach and along the road parallel to the beach. This shoot involved Ant, Ed, Josh and I. We took with us all the equipment we had at our disposal, but notable the Rig/Jib and the track and dolly. This shoot involved a wider variety of techniques.
- This shoot contained lots of camera movement and pans, and due to the location we tried to include interesting scenery and play with the framing of shots to make the mise en scene more interesting.
- This shoot mas much more planned and so therefore we wasted a lot less time planning what we were doing, however when we were on location, we did not stick religiously to the storyboard.
- My job for this shoot was again to mainly control the camera and the equipment. As it was the first time I used the jib, it took me a few shots to get used to how to move it and what shots would be successful. this involved trying different ways in moving the camera, we tried moving it in an l shape and we tried a u shape as well. Both of the shots turned out well, however a few of the others we did earlier were a bit shaky.
- Once we had finished the shoot and reviewed our footage, we realised that the track and dolly shot was a bit shaky and the pan was not very smooth. But the major problem is that we left some of the poles in view of the camera, this could potentially ruin this shot if there is not a way we can remove it in after effects as it is on grass.
- Some of our strongest shots include the shot with the rig, as it looks smooth and professional with the movement and the shape in which it is moved brings the building in the background, which is some expensive looking, sea facing flats with grand roman columns, and then pulls down to show Ant sleeping on a park bench with his sleeping bag wrapped around him. Another strong shot is the one which shows ant walking along the path, as the fog in the background fades out the buildings gradually, I believe this shows the location in which he is sleeping to be harsh and helps to isolate him. The long exposure of the road with Ant and Josh looking out on it is good as it helps to show them as invisible to the many people passing them, and shows how they are ignored
- One particular shot which was problematic to film was a proposed rig shot of Josh and Ant when they are sitting against a garage door wrapped in a sleeping bag. It was not a technical problem, but rather a practical one as the rig took up a majority of the pavement, so people kept walking in the way of our shot. This resulted in us scrapping this shot and doing it instead with a tripod, just at a lower angle.
- We did take a few shots for the digipack promo campaign. One of them was quite spontaneous, as we found a good location which could possibly be the front pain of our album cover.

COS - Location Reccie
This is a picture of the platform at Tonbridge station, we opted to use this location due to its practicality and proximity to our houses. The long track straights will be good to film pull focus shots and blurred shots which will fit in with the common camera techniques within our video. The station is busy enough to show Ant as isolated and ignored yet quiet enough that there will not be too many people getting in the way of our shots
This is a picture of th veranda up the stairs at the station by the ticket barriers, this internal environment would be good to contrast with Ants scruffiness, there will not be much footage shot here, however it may be necessary to achieve continuity if he is to go on to the main high street. This particular sub-location within the station is not as effective as the other two and we may get in peoples ways, and due to it being inside, the footage may not look as good as an external location.
This is what Tonbridge station looks like from outside, as you can see it is a bit of an eyesore, the artificial and metallic looking building will help Ant to look uncomfortable in his set, and on an overcast slightly foggy day such as the day in which this picture was taken, it looks quite sad and bland, which will add to the emotion of the video. This bit of the town can become quite busy, which may cause a problem when filming as one of the towns main bustops is here, meaning there are lots of idle people around who may look into the camera etc.
COS - Digipack Mock Up
- The Panorama of Hastings will be a landscape long shot similar to an establishing shot which shows the area in a depressing light, we have opted for the out of season seaside town shot due to the abandoned look of it, and the effect of the miserable sky over the sea. This will be spread over three pans, and will open out to show the complete picture.
- This is a motorway sign, the ones which show how many miles until certain destinations, and integrated into it is the track list for the album, this will be done using Photoshop and is a simple picture to get. I believe it will be effective and will fit in with the rest of the theme of a journey.
- This panel feature the two artists sitting in front of a car which appears to be broken down as if they are out of luck and just don’t know what to do anymore, this can be achieved by pouring water on a hot engine with the bonnet open and then taking the picture quickly while the steam is coming out, giving the impression that the car is broken down and they are stranded.
- The final pan shows the pair walking along the side of a main road with cars coming past, influenced by Eminem’s album cover from ‘Recovery’, again with this shot the worse the weather the better the effect, it features the rudimental stamp in the corner with the album name ‘Home’ written in italics.
This is the actual front pane of the album for Home, we will do a very similar shot of just a suburban street with graffiti of some sort on the wall and integrate pictures into it of me and Ant using Photoshop, much like this.
AP - Feedback On Shoot
- On Friday 30th October, we did our first shoot in Tonbridge, this was not as we planned as we originally had planned to do our shoot in Hastings which is where most of our music video is set.
- The reason we had to change plans was because our actor pulled out on us last minute but as a group, we did not want to come back from half term with no footage so instead we filmed the ending of our music video.
- We plan to film the Hastings part on Sunday 8th November.
- I was the actor for this part and this will be the same for the other part meaning Christy is doing all of the camera work.
- We did not have any shots which were difficult to shoot, but the one issue we did have was members of the public, however this creates a sense of verisimilitude so this could be an advantage.
- Unfortunately we did not have the track and dolly for this shoot but we do for our Hastings shoot, we also have the rig and the jib as well.
- Shots which we found successful were the beginning ones as we used a different range of angles and distances which all looked effective when we later reviewed them.
- We did not take any stills for our digipak and magazine advert on this shoot as we are planning to get these stills when we go to Hastings.
- This is the shot I am most proud with from this shoot.
- The lighting is very effective and will look good when we put a grey filter over the top of it.
- Also there is no members of the public getting in front of the camera
AP - Audience Research
After conducting our audience research through an online survey, we obtained 10 responses from our target audience, which helped in the decision making of the process.
1)
Out of the 10 people who answered our questionnaire, 6 people said they were familiar with Rudimental's music video and 4 said no. This was helpful as it shows that the majority of our target audience are aware of Rudimental's music videos so they know what to expect and it will be easier for them to answer the questionnaire.
2)
The people who said yes mentioned the music videos they were aware of such as their most popular one, Waiting All Night and Feel the Love. However, they said the lyrics do not link to the visuals.
3)
As you can see, the majority of respondents said that the track leads to both narrative and performance for the music video which is good as this is what we have planned to do.
4)
This question is useful as people have suggested ideas which are similar to what we have planned. Also, things they have suggested have been taken into consideration for our final piece, so they have given us some ideas too.
5)
Again, with this question, the majority of people said the location we had planned to shoot the performance part in, a studio.
6)
From the answers provided here, we have taken them into consideration as they have given us ideas for props and what people associate with homeless people meaning Anthony will be more likely to look homeless creating a sense of verisimilitude.
7)
This question has shown that people believe that homeless people are shown in a negative way in the media. However, we will be portraying the homeless person in a positive way as you would not usually expect a homeless person to have prevalence in a video.
8)
The majority of people again said they expect a happy ending for the end of this music video. The ending to ours is simply just Anthony returning home and then nothing else is revealed.
9)
People have suggested a wide range of different colours they associate with the track. A few people have said they expect dark lighting and grey colour which is what we are going for as we have filmed on overcast days to get this effect. But we have also considered putting a grey scale filter over the top.
10)
Each of the ideas suggested have been taken into consideration and some of them are even being used such as begging and sleeping rough.

AP - Animatic
This is what we did for our animatic. It was not complete as at the time we had done the storyboarding for this part of the video as this is what we planned to film first but our actor was busy on the day.
Anthony's Questions
- My individual contribution to the storyboarding/animatic task was putting together the animatic as I am really not good at drawing
- However, I did come up with ideas for the storyboarding, I just didn’t draw them.
- From this process I learned that when filming, a wide range of distances and angles are needed as it means you will have more to work with when it comes to putting it all together.
- Also, I have learned that a high cutting rate will be needed for our video.
- Dull colouring also looks best.
- This process helped develop our concept as it meant we storyboarded our whole piece and we now know exactly what we will be filming.
- This was harder than at AS level as there are a lot more shots you have to film meaning there is more storyboarding which has to be done during the planning process.
- Also, we have to film enough for the track where as last year, we just had to film for a minimum of 2 minutes.
COS - Risk assesment - Hastings 8/11/15
The risk assessment will help us to plan the shoot and make us think about what is possible to happen when we are out filming
It also makes us think about the environment, and how to stay safe in the environment

AP - Filming Schedule
- On Sunday 8th November, we plan to do our final shoot in Hastings which we had originally planned to do on the last shoot, but our actor was unavailable on the day so we shot the end of our video instead.
- On this shoot we have booked out the track and dolly as well as the rig and the jib.
- We are hoping that on the day it is overcast as we do not want the weather to be good because we will have bright spots in the shot which we do not want as we will be putting a grey scale filter over the top.

AP - Editing our footage - 3/11/2015
- In today's lesson, I exported the footage from the video camera and put it in to the D drive of our group computer so that I could start editing.
- This was the first bit of footage we have for the music video so we had to create a new Elements file. I had to insert our soundtrack and then get all of our media from the folder on the D drive.
- Not many editing techniques were used during this lesson as our main priority was to go through the footage we had and choose which ones we would use and then put them onto the time line where we want them to go.
- Below is a screenshot of what I did. As you can see we did not manage to do much as we were having problems getting our media to work in Elements. But we also had to go through and place filters onto our shots and then render it each time to make sure it looked good.

COS - Reflection on Shoot
- We conducted our first shoot on Friday 30th October, in Tonbridge town, mainly in and around the high street including the car park for the train station. This particular shoot only involved Ant and I, using only a camera and a tripod. It is the more simpler of our two planned shoots.
- We aimed to create interesting shots through the use of angles and camera movement rather than using more exciting equipment, which we will use in Hastings.
- We didn't plan to do this shoot in the half term, but due to a cancelation with one of our actors we improvised and decided to shoot the ending of our production, which only included Ant as an actor, so that we would not fall behind on schedule.
- This meant that we did not have this particular shoot planned with storyboarding, which meant we improvised, which probably meant it took longer than if we had planned it, but it gave us more freedom meaning we could be adventurous with our environment
- I personally was in control of the camera work while Ant was acting, we would first look around the location together so that we could make a mutual agreement on shots; I enjoy being behind the camera and I think it worked well for the group, resulting in a decent standard of footage.
- The storyboard only gave us a rough idea on what shots to use, based on certain themes that we plan to use in Hastings, these include time compression and expansion; and dramatic angles and pans, showing depressing elements of homelessness. As I said we mainly improvised based on the location on the day, which worked quite well but I believe the shoot in Hastings will be easier as we know what we are doing before hand
- I believe that the best shots we made were the three first shots we made, the jump of Ant moving in different positions in and around the tunnel, I believe this shows his characters frustration and the loneliness of homelessness. And the shot of Ant gradually walking towards the camera, in which we will vary time expansion and normal time as he gets closer to the camera. These shots will rely on editing.
- No shots were particularly problematic, we struggled partially with the high angle, however we found a way of balancing the camera over the edge of a barrier in the car park. Due to filming in a relatively populated area, we did gain some attention which could have messed up certain shots, but luckily the main incident which involved a man driving past with his middle finger up is within out time lapse, so he will not be visible in our final production.
- A few of our shots have influenced our ideas for the digipack, for example the shot of Ant sitting on the floor in the train station could be a viable option to recreate in a different location, we did not however focus on the digipack as it was always the plan to do this in Hastings.
